Search for alien life is sure a dangerous line of business..

Charles E. Smith learned it the hard way when he chose to install the SETI software on government computers. Although his action was a little too boneheaded, I think the Ohio Department of job and family services has dealt too harsh a punishment by handing the guy a pink slip (full article)

On the other hand, at the age of 63 the guy is due for a retirement. It sucks for him to end his career on a sour note though. At least this incident might teach other little boys and girls out there to respect the fact that work and personal life are best kept separate.

An interesting tidbit could be found on the unfortunate Mr. Smith at his SETI profile page.

Quote: "SETI@home seems like a great idea, and certainly worth putting on machines that sit here and run 24/7 anyway! It does screw up my workload average statistics though :-)"

How ironic.. He sure need not to worry about no workload issue anymore.
